2015 Concern- Recruitment to the Field

Concern: We are concerned that school library positions are going unfilled without dynamic, qualified, certified candidates for the available positions.

Action Requested: We would like AASL to develop a media recruitment campaign, which would include advocacy packets for school librarians to use at teacher conferences.  The teacher packets might include examples of skills, interest inventory and highlights of exemplary practitioners.  We would like AASL’s website for school librarian recruitment pages to be updated.

Status: Both the Affiliate Assembly Coordinating Team and the Affiliate Assembly body approved this concern. It was sent to the AASL Board.  Executive Committee referred to the Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) to review AASL resources and make recommendations for what is available or may be needed to recruit for the school library profession.
