Cost of Licensed Institutes

Concern: State organizations are committed to providing quality professional development to our members. As affiliate members of AASL, we’d love to take advantage of AASL Institutes, but are limited by the cost of existing AASL professional development. State organizations want to take advantage of AASL expertise and offer quality professional development to our members.

For example, the AASL Licensed Institutes pricing of $4,500 makes it difficult for organizations to recover costs of providing the professional development. At a limit of 75 attendees, an institute cost of $60 per person without food is too expensive for most affiliates.

Lowering the cost of AASL Institutes may increase the number of participants and encourage non-members to become members. The partnership between AASL and state organizations should strengthen and fulfill the AASL mission to develop school library leaders.

Action: The Affiliate Executive Committee did not approve this concern for submission to the Affiliate Assembly body.
