Concern: Educational gaming has been shown to improve student learning. Therefore, AASL needs to establish a presence in this area that shows school librarian leadership in bringing educational gaming into our schools and districts to improve student achievement and motivation. AASL is the only ALA division that is not currently involved with educational gaming.
Action: The Affiliate Assembly Executive Committee approved this concern and sent it to the Affiliate Assembly body. The Assembly revised the concern and approved passing the revision on to the AASL Board.
Revised Concern: Educational gaming has been shown to improve student learning. Therefore we need to establish a presence in this area that shows our leadership in bringing educational gaming into our schools and districts to improve student learning. Games should incorporate not only those produced professionally but those that students produce.
Action: The AASL Board feels that this topic is an opportunity to capitalize on Essential Links. A call for volunteers to work on links and add resources will be made. Educational gaming was also put forth as a possible topic for a future Fall Forum.
